Areas of Responsibility and How to Report Issues

 

 

Public Highways

Highways are the responsibility of Suffolk County Council (unless the road is private or is yet to be adopted following private development). This link will take you to their Roads and Transport page and issues such as defects with roads and pavements, road closures, bus passes etc. can be dealt with here.

Open Space Maintenance

Grass cutting, weed spraying and verges are mainly the responsibility of Suffolk County Council but the work is usually carried out by Babergh District Council on their behalf. Click here to view the latest grass cutting schedules.

Weed control is carried out by Suffolk County Council and their latest schedules and information can be found here.

 

The Parish Council is responsible for the maintenance of the following areas and issues relating to any of the locations should be reported directly to the Parish Council.

  • The Stevenson Centre Recreation Ground and Adult Exercise Area
  • Stacey Ardley enclosed play area and dog exercise area, Shawlands Avenue
  • Shawlands Wood Local Nature Reserve
  • Great Cornard Country Park
  • Great Cornard Cemetery
  • St Andrew's Church closed churchyard

 

 

Streetlights

The Parish Council owns a total of 202 streetlights in the village. The rest are owned by either Suffolk County Council or are in private ownership. You can report faults with streetlights using this online reporting tool.

 

 

Footpaths

All footpaths, with the exception of Abbas Walk and Highbury Barn (between the Co-Op and Mallard Way) are the responsibility of Suffolk County Council. Abbas Walk is owned and maintained by Babergh District Council. Highbury Barn is the only footpath owned and maintained by the Parish Council.

Report an issue with all other footpaths to Suffolk County Council
